What happens at the Gateway?
When an MEDICS GP decides that you need more specialised advice, you have a choice of where you are seen and treated. If you are confident where you wish to go, then you can make that choice directly. One of those choices is MEDICS. If you would like to access an MEDICS service in the community and take advantage of the knowledge available through the Gateway, then details of your case are forwarded to the MEDICS Gateway Team. The MEDICS Gateway doctors are all experienced General Practitioners who have received training in the many available options. The MEDICS Gateway team not only knows what is available but also how long patients will have to wait.
As a result, referrals can be sent to the specialist team which can provide the most appropriate care in the shortest possible time.
The MEDICS system is compatible with Choose and Book and 18-week targets.
