Patients 4: Confidentiality
Maintaining confidentiality
Respecting the confidentiality of the information we hold is very important to MEDICS.
If patients wish to contact us about the progress of a referral, they should first obtain the unique number their practice gave to their case.
This personal password should be quoted to the MEDICS staff so that they can retrieve documents quickly and ensure the confidentiality of medical information. The password will start with three letters which signify the practice and be followed by a number.
All information handled at the Gateway is confidential. Clinical members of the Gateway team are bound by the rules of ethical behaviour and of confidentiality as described in the British Medical Association's 'Handbook of medical Ethics'.
